MINERAL RESOURCES IN INGAWA LOCAL GOVERNMENT, IDENTIFIED BY THE COMMITTEE SET UP BY THE KATSINA STATE GOVERNOR BARRISTER IBRAHIM SHEHU SHEMA FOR THE PROMOTION OF INDUSTRIES IN THE STATE.
1. FIRE/LATERITIC CLAY : - Refractory’s are materials mostly non-metallic minerals that have enormous heat capacities and can withstand high temperatures as well as other strains exerted on them such as abrasion, impact, thermal shock, chemical attack and high level loads at elevated temperature.
|
Quantity |
Very large |
|
Quality |
Very good grade |
|
Uses/Application |
Fire clay suitable for used produced engineering high temperature resistant refractories and also suitable in the production of high quality bricks block, floor and wall tiles. |
|
Work done |
The State Government has established a bricks Industry at Funtua. |
2. KAOLIN: - Kaolin is a versatile industrial material of wide application it is an inert and soft industrial mineral produced by the alteration of aluminous silicates, particularly of alkali-feldspar which is caused by either weathering or hydrothermal action.
|
Quantity |
Large quantity |
|
Uses/Application |
The unique properties of Kaolin have given it preference over other non-metallic minerals in many industries as follows: Paints, Chemicals, refractories, Ceramics, Pharmaceuticals industries, Paper, Rubber and Plastic, Suspending agent, fertilizer, Crayons etc. |
|
Work done |
RMRDC and KTSG has established a pharmaceuticals grade Plant at Kankara also KTSG and Private investors has established a Ceramic Grade Plant at Dutsin-ma. |
3. MICA (MUSCOUVITE): - It is widely distributed in igneous rock.
|
Quantity |
Large quantity identified |
|
Quality |
Very good sheets of both transparent and black mica available. |
|
Uses/Application |
Electrical insulation, electronic U tubes, Capacitors, Pressing iron elements, Paper coatings, wet ground mica is used for reinforce solvent and aqueous system paints or increased weather ability, durability, greater resistance to moisture and atmospheric corrosion, used also as a mould lubricant in molded rubber products and in wall paper finishes, dry powder used in fire extinguishers, in oil well drilling mud etc. |
|
Work done |
Survey conducted. |
4. QUARTZ :- Pure while, Smoky, Rose, Milky, expensive, Amherst were all identified in the Local Government.
